I love playing tabletop games with friends and family. It’s an easy way for me to connect with others. However, your first time playing a new game can be difficult and the instructions are often long and complicated. I was inspired by the creators of Exploding Kittens and Secret Hitler and their digital instructions for their games.

Eclectic Outlet is a card game that is fun and quick for teenagers and young adults. This game is also intended to be accessible to anyone as the cards are downloadable to print and the instructions are online.

I started this project by researching some of my favorite games: Fluxx, Great Dalmuti, Exploding Kittens, DnD game, Monopoly Go, and Uno. I picked out what I liked best out of the game play and my favorite cards and started constructing a basic card game.

I went through three card deck prototypes and several rounds of play testing with different rules. At the time I worked at the media lab at my college’s library, so I accosted several coworkers, friends, and other students to play test my game and give feedback. Usually I would hand them the rules and just take notes and listen to their feedback and sometimes I would play with them.
